SCOPE Inc. provides services to the electric utility industry in the areas of panel manufacturing, substation construction, substation maintenance, and quality oversight.

Our Substation Division, KVA, Inc. is headquartered in Greer, South Carolina and we provide services throughout the Carolinas and North America.

KVA is currently seeking a Substation Relay Technician Foremanwith Control Wiring Skills and direct work experience with control relay panels and control house integration. This position requires skills as a Substation Technician having performed a variety of maintenance and service work on equipment throughout the utility service territory. Experience as a Relay Technician assisting a higher-level technician in activities associated relay construction and maintenance Incumbents are expected to develop intermediate skills and the ability to work with greater independence.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Firm grasp safe work practices and safety culture
  • Understanding the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, communications
  • Basic isolation procedure writing
  • Demonstrates good verbal communications skills
  • Firm grasp of print reading, red mark process
  • Understanding of RTS and its use
  • Understanding of ASPEN and reporting
  • Complete understanding NERC compliance and importance for accurate data and timely completion
  • Basic trouble shooting skills
  • Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order.
  • Basic understanding of CT and VT circuits
  • Exposure to Carrier and Tone equipment
  • Manage up to 20 control technicians
  • HR Experience as it relate to resource management

Basic Qualifications

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to pass any required back ground check for NERC/CIP/Nuclear compliance
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. for 100 feet
  • Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent) OR 3-5 years related experience in Relay and Control, OR equivalent job-related and educational experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Computer skills, including working knowledge ladder logic
  • Software skills including Word, Excel Spreadsheets, and e-mail.
  • Electrical troubleshooting of AC/DC circuits.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics
  • Working knowledge of electrical test equipment/relay test sets, multi meters, carrier test equipment, etc.
  • Good communication skills, written and oral.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in team environment.
